the fire in the mountain audiobook

Last week I spent a few days in a soundproof studio at Penguin Random House, recording The Fire in the Mountain audiobook. I had no idea what to expect, but certainly not a near constant supply of hot lemon and honey to help my voice, bananas for energy, and a cushion to put over my stomach if it rumbled!

It was a strange experience to read the book out loud from start to finish, but it gave me a wonderful opportunity to slip in some extra punctuation and resolve any repetitions.

I was very lucky to have award-winning audio-drama director Carl Prekopp with me in the studio. Blundering out into the light at the end of three days of recording, I realised how grateful I was for his cleverness, encouragement and lovely sense of humour.
