Writing Workshops and Courses
Please see the Events page for upcoming workshops and courses
I love the inspiration and sense of community that comes from running workshops. I teach creative writing in many different settings, sometimes in Italy, sometimes outdoors in British gardens and landscapes, and sometimes at one of Arvon’s writing houses www.arvon.org.
I was a writing fellow at the University of Worcester, and since then I have been leading academic writing workshops for doctoral students in Arts and Humanities in universities all over Britain. I am accredited to the Royal Literary Fund Consultant Fellowship scheme, and my workshops are designed to introduce students to literary techniques that will help deliver their research to the widest possible audience.
STUDENT FEEDBACK
“This was one of the best online courses I’ve ever attended, it almost felt like an in-person event due to the small overall group size, the way the course leader constantly engaged us and sought dialogue as well as the numerous opportunities for discussions with our peers in small break-out groups.”
“As someone who came to this course with very little writing already, I have found the aspects that help you get words on the page or process your ideas extremely useful. I’ve got more content now than I’ve had in my whole PhD so far.”
“I loved the course! Helena was a wonderful and supportive tutor, and her wide array of techniques … are extremely useful, encouraging me to immediately begin deepening my thinking with exercises that I am certain I'll be able to easily incorporate into my everyday practice.”
“I really enjoyed the course. Helena was a really convivial group leader — inclusive, engaging and interesting to listen to.”
